Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Open University is a state open university located in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. It was established in 1994 by the Government of Gujarat with the objective of making higher education accessible to learners who may not be able to attend conventional full-time colleges.

The university provides education through Open and Distance Learning as well as Online Learning modes. It offers programmes ranging from undergraduate and postgraduate degrees to diplomas, certificates and Ph.D. programmes.

BAOU has UGC Section 2(f) and 12(B) recognition and Category-I graded autonomy. The university has also received NAAC A++ accreditation with a CGPA of 3.55/4.00.

The university operates through regional centres and learner support centres across Gujarat, providing study, counselling, examination and learner-support facilities.

BA: Undergraduate programme covering Gujarati, Hindi, English, Sanskrit, Economics, History, Sociology, Political Science and other humanities and social-science subjects.

BA Honours: Honours-level undergraduate programmes in selected disciplines under the current academic structure.

B.Com (Hons.): Undergraduate Commerce programme under the revised academic structure.

BBA: Bachelor of Business Administration through distance/online learning.

BSW: Bachelor of Social Work.

BAJMC: Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Mass Communication.

BCA: Bachelor of Computer Applications.

B.Sc. IT: Undergraduate Information Technology programme.

B.Sc. Cyber Security: Undergraduate programme focused on Cyber Security.

MA: Postgraduate programmes in English, Gujarati, Hindi, Sanskrit, History, Economics, Sociology, Indian Knowledge System and Hindu Studies.

M.Com: Master of Commerce.

MBA: Master of Business Administration.

MCA: Master of Computer Applications.

MSW: Master of Social Work.

B.Ed.: Bachelor of Education through ODL.

B.Ed. Special Education: Special Education programme.

Course Eligibility

UG Courses: Generally, candidates must have passed Class 12 or an equivalent qualification from a recognised board. Certain BAOU programmes also accept specified diploma, PTC or ITI qualifications.

B.Com (Hons.): Class 12 or equivalent qualification from a recognised board.

BBA: Class 12 or equivalent qualification as prescribed by the university.

BCA: Class 12/equivalent qualification, with specific alternative entry routes available for eligible ITI and Polytechnic Diploma candidates.

BSW: Class 12 or equivalent qualification from a recognised institution.

PG Courses: A recognised Bachelor's degree in the relevant or eligible discipline is generally required.

MBA: Bachelor's degree from a recognised university, subject to the programme-specific eligibility requirements.

MCA: Candidates with BCA, B.Sc. Computer Science/IT, B.E./B.Tech in Computer Science/IT or equivalent qualifications can be eligible. Other graduates may also be considered subject to the prescribed Mathematics and percentage requirements.

M.Com: Bachelor's degree in Commerce or another eligible discipline as prescribed by the university.

MSW: Bachelor's degree from a recognised university.

M.Sc. Programmes: Bachelor's degree in the relevant discipline.

B.Ed.: Graduation and fulfilment of applicable teacher-education eligibility requirements.

B.Ed. Special Education: Graduation and programme-specific eligibility prescribed under applicable regulations.

Diploma Courses: Eligibility varies by programme. Several programmes require Class 12, while certain professional diplomas have specific subject or qualification requirements.

Ph.D.: Relevant postgraduate qualification and fulfilment of BAOU and UGC doctoral admission requirements.
