Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) is a public state university located at Summer Hill, Shimla. It was established in 1970 by an Act of the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly.

The university is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and accredited with an ‘A’ grade by NAAC.

HPU offers undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma and doctoral programmes across arts, science, commerce, management, law, engineering and education disciplines through its faculties and affiliated colleges.

It is one of the major government universities in Himachal Pradesh with a large affiliated college network.
