Karnataka State Open University was established in 1996 with the objective of providing open and distance education to learners who cannot pursue regular higher education. KSOU is located in Mysuru and functions under the Government of Karnataka.

The university offers undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma and doctoral programmes through Open & Distance Learning (ODL) mode. With UGC-DEB recognition, affordable fees and statewide learner support centres, KSOU is one of the largest open universities in South India.
